মানুষের হৃদয় যখন ভরে ওঠে মোহ-মায়ার অন্ধকারে, তখন ঈশ্বরের সঙ্গে তৈরী হয় দূরত্ব। ঈশ্বরকে হৃদয়ের মাঝে সর্বদা খুঁজে পাওয়ার আকুল ইচ্ছে ফুটে উঠেছে কবিগুরু রবীন্দ্রনাথ (Rabindranath Tagore) ঠাকুর দ্বারা রচিত "মাঝে মাঝে তব দেখা পাই" গানে।

বাংলার সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ সাহিত্যিকদের মধ্যে অন্যতম রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের গানের সংগ্রহ হলো "গীতবিতান"। এই সংগ্রহের একটি বিশিষ্ট বিষয়শ্রেণী হলো "পূজা ও প্রার্থনা পর্যায়"; এই বিভাগের গানগুলিতে কবি কখনো তুলে ধরেছেন আধ্যাত্মিকতা ও আরাধনার ইচ্ছে, কখনো বা ঈশ্বরের প্রতি গভীর প্রেম। এই রচনাগুলির কথায় ফুটে উঠেছে নিজের মধ্যে ঈশ্বরকে খুঁজে নেওয়ার মাধ্যমে আত্মার সঙ্গে সংযোগ স্থাপন ও নিজের মধ্যেই শান্তি ও আনন্দের অনুভূতি খুঁজে নেওয়ার ইচ্ছে ও প্রচেষ্টা। তেমনই একটি গান হলো "মাঝে মাঝে তবে দেখা পাই"।
